David Barroso is the founder of MUSOTOKU and a telecommunications engineer with more than two decades of research and development experience across railway systems, avionics and satellite communications.

Engineering background

David earned his telecommunications engineering degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Before building MUSOTOKU, he worked at Siemens, Airbus Military and Thales on projects spanning the railway industry, avionics and satellite communications.

His work has included electronics for high-speed trains, military aircraft systems and satellite communications. He is named as an inventor on several patents and one utility model, including railway systems for measuring train speed and locating track balises. Working in safety-critical engineering environments shaped the rigorous approach to reliability, failure analysis, testing and validation that he later brought to tattoo equipment.

Building MUSOTOKU

MUSOTOKU began with a power supply David designed as a personal engineering project in 2014. After showing the prototype to friends, including a former tattoo studio manager, he began adapting it to the needs of professional tattoo artists. The first MUSOTOKU power supply was sold at the Barcelona Tattoo Convention in 2015.

Since then, David has led the development of MUSOTOKU power supplies, wireless battery systems and tattoo machines. These products are designed, tested and assembled by the MUSOTOKU team in its Madrid workshop, with an emphasis on long service life, repairability, stable performance and intuitive operation.

His design approach carries lessons from safety-critical engineering into tattoo equipment: understand how a system can fail, test its behaviour under realistic conditions and avoid unnecessary complexity. The result is a product ecosystem intended to evolve over years rather than follow short release cycles.

David writes and technically reviews MUSOTOKU guides about tattoo power supplies, machine performance, electrical compatibility, batteries, USB-C power and troubleshooting.
